The Pomorskie region is situated on the Baltic Sea in the north of Poland. It has a population of 2.2 million (5.7% of the population of Poland) and an area of 18,000 thousand km². The region’s major cities include Gdansk, Gdynia, Słupsk, Tczew and Sopot.
Pomorskie has very diverse landscapes, from Wieżyca Mountain, the region’s highest elevation, to the low-lying area of Żuławy Wi¶lane. It has beautiful golden beaches, forests and lakes. Kashubian Switzerland and Starogardzkie Lake District are one of the most diverse landscapes. The region is home to two national parks: Słowiński Park and Tucholskie Primeval Forests.
The Słowiński National Park is the region’s most precious area of conservation. It is part of UNESCO’s network of World Biosphere Reserves. Established to protect the seaside lakes, marshes, peat bogs, meadows, seaside forests and woods, it is also home to Europe’s unique shifting sand dunes.
Pomorskie has some hot spots for amateur bird watchers, ‘Birds’ Paradise’ and ‘Gull Sandbank’ reserves on the Sobieszewska Island.
Mechowskie Caves are another must see on the Kashubian Seashore.
The seal shelter, a Gdansk University Maritime Station, is another place of interest.
