Growing number of qualified personnel among the ctizens of Opole Province is one of the factors, which stimulate the economical development of the region. The main academic centre of the region is Opole with 32, 000 students. They constitute one-fourth of the Opole inhabitants. The greatest and most prestigious academic institution is the Opole University which educate economic staff and the Opole University of Technology – a technical higher school, from which graduates in construction , automatics and robotics, electrical engineering and telecomunication, IT, Mechanics and machines construction originate. There are courses in German and English.
There is also the Academy of Management and Administration – the greatest non-public higher school of the region, which trains managers, the Public Higher Medical Professional School which educates health service personnel, a branch of the Bogdan Jański Academy. Within the region there is also the State Higher Vocational School in Nysa which educates technical as well as historic preservation personnel and the Higher Humanistic-Economic School in Brzeg.
Scientific institutes play an important role in development of the region: The Institute of Mineral Building Materials conducts researches on new and developed products and technologies in the scope of mineral building materials. It also deals with implementation of fuel-power management, environment protection, certification, attests and advisory service. ‘Blachownia’ Institute of Heavy Mineral Synthesis in Kędzierzyn-KoĽle conducts researches on raw materials and semi-finished products processing for plastic and fibres industry. The State Science Institute – Silesian Institute in Opole has conducted interdisciplinary researches of Silesian society particularly the Opole Province for years.
Since 1999 International European Integration Summer Camp takes place and is a very interesting offer for young people.
Widely known are Opole Province cultural institutions such as: Józef Elsner Opole Philharmony, Jan Kochanowski Theatre, Alojzy Smołka Puppet Theatre, Opole Silesia Museum, and nationwide cultural events as: National Festiwal of Polish Song, Theatral Confrontations “Polish Classics” and Nationwide Festiwal of Puppet Theatres.
The project „Regions of Poland” was realized in cooperation with the Offices of the Presidents of the 16 regions of Poland.
