Mazovia is the province with the greatest economic potential in Poland, well placed to play a major role among European regions.
For a few years now, Mazovia has played an increasingly important role in the economy of the enlarging European Union. Trade with EU countries now accounts for over 70 per cent of Poland’s overall trade. Poland is the European Union’s fourth biggest trade partner, after the United States, Japan and Switzerland. Given the size and potential of the Polish market, this role will continue to grow. Thanks to EU structural funds as well as other factors, Poland and its regions are in for a period of rapid growth over the next few years. Warsaw has now reached the average income level of the EU member states. However, Mazovia’s GDP is equal to barely 50 per cent of the GDP of EU regions. Structural funds will be used e.g. to upgrade the infrastructure, which will add to Mazovia’s attractiveness on the map of the country both in terms of business and tourism.
In the 19th century, it was ŁódĽ, a textile industry town, that was Europe’s ‘promised land’, its business centre. Today, it is Warsaw that enjoys a ‘promised land’ status. Together with nearby ŁódĽ, it makes up a duopolis with a population of almost 4 million. Mazovia is a gateway to Poland. With its location, potential, Poland’s rapidly expanding capital city and good infrastructure, it is well placed to become one of the most attractive investment locations on the map of a united Europe.
