Zamość – ideal city.
In 1580 the chancellor Jan Zamoyski, creator of the one of largest houses and law in Republic, established city of Zamość. Ideal city, built by Italian architect Bernardo Morando according to best Renaissance rules. It delights the tourists today, as one of pearls on the List of World Heritage UNESCO.
Great Market in Zamość impresses by its size (100x100 m) and exceptional beauty of tenement houses, with vaulted arcades in ground floor and rich attics on tops. Chancellor Zamoyski looked after the development of the city and he settled there craftsmen of different nationality, among others Armenians, Greeks, Italians, Jews, Germans, Englishmen, Scotsmen…
City had modern system of fortification with powerful ramparts, which turn out difficult to conquest both for Cossack-Tartars armies and for Swedish armies during invasions in 17 th century. That is why in Zamość the original town-planning arrangement and most of magnificent buildings are well preserved, eg. chancellor palace, Arsenal, collegiate church from ancestral mausoleum of Zamoyski family, Zamość Academy.
Today Zamość is a city of tourists and artists, in summer it is the most important centre of culture of region, famous because of great outdoor events and festivals, among others: Hetman’s Fair, Zamojski Theatre Summer, international Folk Festival Eurofolk.
Vistula pearl of Renaissance.
Kazimierz – a small town, discovered a century ago by painters, owes the fame thanks to numerous architecture relics connected with beautiful scenery of Malopolska Ravine of Vistula river. Along the river one can see picturesque panorama – with ruins from age of king of Kazimierz the Great, Renaissance church, Great Market and Reformats’ monastery. In town you will find many decoration tenements as well as granaries of former rich citizens, which earned fortunes on trade with Warsaw and Gdańsk.
The Vistula river raises attractiveness of the town also today. In Kazimierz there is the largest fleet of touristics’ ships between Cracow and Warsaw. It gives possibility to admire tourist attractions on other bank: majestic ruins of castle of Firlej and Lubomirski families from 16 – 17 centuries. From some time a car ferry connects Kazimierz and Janowiec.
Kazimierz Dolny from years attracts artists – some of them arrive to paint in open air, many other settled here for ever and lead galleries. From dozens years the town hosts also largest folk festival in Poland and from a few yeas is a place of one of the most important movie festivals.
Palace settlement and city - garden.
Flowing down the river we will reach Puławy, called “Polish Athens”, where in 18 th and 19 th centuries Princely house of Czartoryski created palace settlement, as important as royal manor. On surface of more than 40 hectare a romantic landscape park was created with many buildings in neoclassical, neo-Gothic and oriental style. In two of them – Temple of Sybil and little Gothic house the duchess Izabela Czartoryska set first museum in Poland.
Next important place is Nałęczów (located in so-called tourist triangle Kazimierz – Puławy - Nałęczów). Popular health resort of particularly for treating heart diseases, it was fashionable spa already in 19 century. The most prominent representatives of Polish elite, among others writers: Henryk Sienkiewicz, Bolesław Prus, Stefan Żeromski arrived here to rest. Today Nałęczów is a city - garden, with perfectly kept Spa Park and many antique objects. Now you will find here also modern swimming pool centre of recreation and hydrotherapy.
Lordly mansion with gallery of socrealism.
Lubelskie region is famous because of the most splendid in Poland museums in palace-park group of Zamoyski family in Kozłówka near Lubartów. Lordly palace delights with beautiful and splendid eclectic interior decoration in style of II Empire. The stairways and chapel are designed directly under influence of interiors palace in Versailles (!).
In the museum carriage house there is a collection of horse vehicles and travellers’ accessories from the epoch. The largest surprise still is the Gallery of Socrealism Art, which gathered impressive collection of over 1600 sculptures, paintings, drawings, posters and other pieces of art from years 50. of 20th century, when art was harnessed into fight for socialism.
